This painting was inspired by a walk in Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park near Qualicum Beach in February. The contrast of the dark rock of the canyon walls against the light turquoise blue of the rushing water is very visually dynamic. I was also very drawn to the way the low winter sun created a soft glow that invites the eye into the painting. The park on Vancouver Island is a beautiful trail that leads you along the canyon so you can view the impressive waterfall from many angles as it winds through the majestic old growth forest.
